18th Scottish Colours

[ku:L] Öblarn

The eighteenth edition of the SCOTTISH COLOURS tour has the motto “Sounding Islands” and features two very young and very traditional ensembles. Both sets will feature songs in Scots Gàidhlig, i.e. Scottish Gaelic.

It's almost unbelievable how many great singers this small country produces year after year, the young talent at schools and universities is excellent, and so I can once again announce one of the great new voices of Gaelic singing - Mairi McGillivray! She will enchant audiences with her voice and join guitarist Sean Gray for this tour!

In the Sòlás Collective, young Scottish Small Pipes master Fionnlagh Mac A' Phiocar from the island of NORTH UIST and viola virtuoso Sarah Hannify will be performing rarely heard music from the remote wild Atlantic islands of the Outer Hebrides, more precisely from the island of North Uist - their home - with hypnotic, contemporary sounds.

Mairi McGillivray hails from the island of ISLAY off the west coast of Scotland from a family with strong Gaelic roots. She graduated with distinction from the Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland in 2020, won the prestigious Danny Kyle Award in 2021 and was a finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Of The Year Awards in 2023.
