Illustrated radio play by Christoph Huber

As part of the art and culture project “Signal vom Dachstein”, photographer Christoph Huber has created a touching and finely illustrated radio play.

For 15 years, he has spent the summer as a shepherd on the Königreichalm on the Dachstein plateau. This environment, the region around the Dachstein, is his home, which occupies him in his artistic work. In the illustrated radio play “GESTERN HOTS GRENGT”, Christoph Huber uses original entries from the mountain hut logbook to tell a story about change and permanence, about deeply human feelings and experiences, about life and death on the mountain pasture in the face of an approaching global climate crisis.

The music of Klaus Meissnitzer's radio play brings the barren karst landscape of the Dachstein plateau to life in an impressive way, merging with texts, voices and images to create a moving journey through the history of a mountain pasture.

Christoph Huber was awarded the Folk Culture Prize of the Province of Styria 2025 for his project “Gestern hots grengt”. The prize honors outstanding contributions to lively folk culture in Styria, especially those that preserve regional traditions, develop them innovatively and strengthen the intangible cultural heritage.
