Filming Location - the "Öfen"
Gröbming
The Öfen are an impressive rocky gorge in the Kemetgebirge mountains between the Stoderzinken and the Kammspitze. The road winds steeply and windingly through high rock faces here - a fascinating sight that can often be seen in car scenes in the series.
Before there was a road through the gorge, wood was transported down into the valley on so-called “giants” - chute-like channels. The kilns are not accessible by car, but you can explore them on a hike or mountain bike.
The starting point for the hike through the ovens is the Kneipp facility in the Lend. From there, a 1.5-hour ascent leads to the Viehbergalm, where you can stop for a bite to eat. Just 30 minutes further on is the idyllic Miesbodensee, a scenic gem and perfect destination for nature lovers.
The mountain bike tour through the Öfen is not for the inexperienced: at 63 km long and with an altitude difference of over 1,000 meters, it requires a good level of fitness and solid equipment. But you will be rewarded with unique views and spectacular natural scenery.
