Herwig Bachler - My festival summer 2024 Homage to the Einöd Waberl - Story of a murder.

The post-research on a missing child in Öblarn in diary form and illustrated with drawn scenes from the festival play. Reflections on the historical and literary contexts surrounding the main child role in Paula Grogger's play “The Wedding”.

What happens when a dramatic chapter of village history, a mysterious murder case and the literary power of a festival play interweave to create a captivating work? Herwig Bachler takes you on a haunting search for clues - and brings long-forgotten facts back to light.

His new book “Huldigung an die Einöd Waberl” is about more than just a missing child from Öblarn. It is about memory, about the continuing effects of a tragic fate and about the quiet magic of literature, which gives little Maria Köck a new role - as the angel of annunciation in Paula Grogger's “The Wedding”. How does a real crime end up in a festival play? And why does the Einöder child remain in our memories for generations?

Bachler's diary research reads like a detective story, peppered with drawings from the festival play and deep insights into the soul of a village. With a keen sense of history, language and humanity, he succeeds in bringing a piece of the past into the present - carefully, movingly and with great attention to detail.

Come to the book presentation on September 12 at the [ku:L] Öblarn. Let yourself be touched by a true story that shows that remembering can also be an act of reconciliation. Because sometimes a lost child returns not only as an angel, but also as a reminder and consolation.
