The town hosts the annual World Cup Nightrace and is host of the World Alpine Ski Championships 2013. Schladming with its 5.000 inhabitants is also a meeting place for sports enthusiasts. Its reputation as a world-famous winter sports resort is based on many major events such as Alpine World Ski Championships, Special Olympics World Winter Games and a lot of Alpine ski World cup races. The Planai is the centre of Austria’s largest ski alliance, “amadé”.
